Summary
Jack Richards & Son Ltd is a subsidiary of Turners of Soham Ltd – one of the leading haulage firms in the country specialising in bulk powders, curtainsider haulage, containers, refrigerated transport, fuel distribution and temperature-controlled warehousing.
The candidate will work for a £81 million turnover business based predominantly a road haulage and contract logistic operation with a small, palletised load distribution service to the UK and Europe.
Operational Management
- Oversee the daily operations of the transport department, managing a fleet of 19 articulated lorries at our customer site in Norwich.
- Ensure optimal resource allocation to meet customer requirements and achieve Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Monitor compliance with legal and safety standards, including tachograph regulations and drivers’ infringements.
Team Management
- Manage, support, and develop a team of 36 staff members, including drivers, yard supervisors, shunters, and office personnel.
- Manage performance, handle absences, and conduct interviews.
- Provide coverage for the Assistant Transport Manager and Transport Administrator when required.
Customer Relationship Management
- Establish and maintain a constructive, collaborative relationship with our customers.
- Work alongside the customer to identify and implement opportunities for operational improvements and cost-saving measures.
- Attend and actively participate in daily, weekly, and monthly meetings to align with customer expectations.
The ideal person would have the following skills:
- Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritise multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a strategic mindset and the ability to develop creative solutions that put value to the customer at the forefront.
- Forward thinking with the ability to think outside of the box.
- Knowledge of UK geography and transportation regulations.
- Experience managing transport operations on a customer’s site would be advantageous.
- Transport Manager CPC is preferred but not essential.
- Knowledge of Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, and Teams is essential.
Location: Norwich, Norfolk
Hours: Full-time position: 60 hours per week, Monday – Friday, office based.
Salary: £40,000 to £45,000 per year
